Water transport

As for the Elbe water way, which holds international status, the section from the state border up to Chvaletice is currently in use. Canalisation of the 23-kilometre-long section between Chvaletice and Pardubice is a necessary condition for creation of the river-port transport-logistic zone in Pardubice. This way Pardubice will be directly connected not only with Hamburg, an important sea port, but also with a whole network of European water ways.

The support for the Elbe canalisation and creation of the relating river-port transport-logistic zone are the reasons that resulted in the formation of the stock company called Přístav Pardubice (Pardubice Port) at the end of 1994.

The transport centre prepared by that stock company and implementation of the Elbe canalisation through the Water Ways Directorate are two closely related projects. An improvement to transportation networks in the Czech Republic by 2010 is also in the interests of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Czech Republic (through the Water Ways Directorate).

The port transport-logistic centre in Pardubice should become a part of the network of logistic centres not only in the Czech Republic but also in Europe in the near future. The arguments supporting location of the centre in Pardubice include, among other things, connection to the European network of waterways, connection to the transit railway corridor or connection of Pardubice to the Czech motorway network. Other reasons include the possibility for territorial development of the zone, support of the project at state administration level, optimum distance from the international public airport (EBA), and the ecological benefits in favour of the environment cannot be neglected either.

Pleasure boat Arnošt of Pardubice

At present, the general public can enjoy rides on the pleasure boat named after one of the most important people from the town. The boat Arnošt of Pardubice also serves as a restaurant and regularly leaves the port for Srnojedy or for Kunětice below Kunětická mountain during the season. The boat anchors in the port in the town centre near the multifunction ČEZ arena.
