The detailed plan of all Pardubice events can be found at the web site of PARDUBICE REGION TOURISM
The Pardubice City Festivities are traditional events that bring plenty of music, entertainment, education and most of all pleasure to the city. The City Festivities are divided into two parts – the spring and autumn festivals. What is more, the autumn festival is organised in-between two very important sporting events – the Golden Helmet (Zlatá přilba) speedway race, which always begins the festival, and the Great Pardubice Steeplechase (Velká pardubická), which brings the celebrations to an end quite spectacularly.
This project is organised by Culture Centre Pardubice (Kulturní centrum Pardubice) and the primary school of art in Polabiny. The project originated as a reaction to the challenge of the General Secretary of UNESCO to support art education and creativity as the basis of culture and peace. The words “art” and “mirror” do not appear in the name of the festival purely by chance; in fact they capture the focus of the entire event quite precisely. Each day is set aside for one particular genre of art and this is presented in various parts of the city in different performances. Monday – the city paints, the city recites and acts. Tuesday – the city plays music. Wednesday – the city dances. Thursday – the city sings. The festival is attended by children from nursery schools, primary schools and secondary schools, by the pupils from primary schools of art, by children from children’s homes, from various clubs and groups interested in art. And so it is that the people of Pardubice and visitors to the city come across this cultural marathon in the space of one week in June, whether in the form of concerts, theatre performances or art workshops.
A prize draw is also open to all participants in the festival, i.e. the schools, nurseries and groups that take part in the Mirror of Art festival, in which they can win attractive prizes.
The Mirror of Art is a festival that brings art and culture closer to the people, comes to them in the streets and wants to show that art and art education are an important part of our lives in this day and age, just as they were in the past.
Clubs, theatres, galleries, culture centres and art schools are all involved in the festival programme, which lasts almost a week. There is dancing, singing and acting literally throughout the city. Lovers of brass bands, classical music or rock all come into their own and there is something too for children or history enthusiasts, for example.
One major attraction is the magnificent firework display that is organised every year on the banks of the River Elbe. Thousands of people move between Pernštýnské Square (Pernštýnské náměstí), Pardubice Chateau and the banks of the Elbe to take in this fascinating firework show. You can go to large or more intimate events throughout the festival, either indoors or outside.
The individual clubs and groups in Pardubice endeavour to prepare plenty for the people of Pardubice and visitors to the city to enjoy and so the silent motto of the city festivals, “Pardubice folk for Pardubice”, is ever more perceptible every year.
