Once known as the Town Theatre (Městské divadlo), this hub of culture opened its doors in December 1909. The theatre became the centre of cultural life in Pardubice thanks to its choice of location in the heart of the city and the modern and attractive design of the theatre building by architect Balšánek. The theatre in Pardubice offers its audience Czech and world drama and performances by a number of award-winning Czech stage actors. It is perhaps no surprise that the theatre has had a loyal audience throughout its existence thanks to the quality drama on offer most seasons.
