University of Pardubice

The University of Pardubice is one of 26 public universities in the Czech Republic and is the only university type higher level educational institution in the Pardubice region.

As far as the number of students is concerned the University, with more than 9 thousand students, is a medium-sized university in the Czech Republic. It has 7 faculties:

Students can choose bachelors, masters, and doctorate study programmes in various fields including Natural and Engineering Sciences oriented towards chemistry, chemical technology, biochemistry, and biotechnology, electrical engineering, informatics, transport and communications, material engineering, and in the field of Social Sciences branches such as economics and public administration, philosophy, history and sociology, Health sciences, and the Arts aimed at conservation techniques and restoration. In total there are over 70 study programmes with more than 140 fields of study. All of them are conceived in accordance with the Bologna declaration and trends in University education from around the world, i.e. in a structural format. Two year Masters programmes and fields of study follow on from three year Bachelor study programmes. The best graduates from Master study programmes may continue with doctoral studies in selected fields at five faculties. Three quarters of all students are registered for daily attendance form of study. Some programmes of study are offered as a combined form of attendance.

Besides teaching the University has a rich tradition in research and development. The University and its faculties have already gained respect in the field of science both at home and abroad. A number of specialised laboratories and other organisations, institutions and associations collaborate with the University and have contributed to boosting its reputation.

The Miroslav Jureček and Jan Perner foundation funds play a significant role in supporting the teaching and scientific activities at the University.

Individual University departments are also involved in international projects. Based on signed agreements with more than 200 foreign partners, and research and higher education institutions from 40 countries, the University is involved in international cooperation and encourages both students and lecturers to participate in exchange programmes. In addition a number of scientific research projects are undertaken and prestigious international symposiums, conferences and seminars are also organised.

University life is not all study. Students are involved in a range of cultural, sporting, and general activities and often represent the University at various events.

The modern facilities of the University campus, near the centre of the city with a population of one hundred thousand, create ideal conditions for the all-around development of young people. Pleasant surroundings and many sports and cultural life opportunities, in combination with quality and demanding study programmes, are comparable to those of leading European universities at the dawn of the third millennium.

The University has become an active member of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and the European Research Area (ERA).
