Alliance Francaise

It was founded in Paris in 1883 and is a recognised public organisation, whose aim is to support teaching of the French language all over the world as well as to strengthen francophone ideas. It arranges for a dialogue between different cultures – 1200 branches are active in 183 countries, of which 6 are in the Czech Republic (in Brno, České Budějovice, Liberec, Ostrava, Plzeň and Pardubice). The Pardubice branch was opened in 1999. Alliance Francaise offers language courses at all levels together with courses about French life. Czech and French teachers teach in courses divided into two semesters, from September to February and from February to June. Furthermore, an intensive course of French language takes place each August. DELF and DALF, internationally recognised examinations, are also organised here. Within its activities, Alliance Francaise Pardubice organises concerts, film and theatre performances, lectures, exhibitions in the course of the year – and also a tournament in petanque – a well-known French game. The richly equipped library is also open to the general public.
